A Tale of Two Villages ~ Kafarya and Foua

Diary August 30th 2015

“Marwa said that they have spent a long time in one of the house’s bathrooms.  When he asked her whether they were eating or not she replied that maybe it was a day or more since their last meal.
The Shelling was intense and none of them was able to cross to the kitchen and prepare anything.

Her brother calling from outside the village falls silent over the phone, and Marwa then laughs saying that no food is available in the kitchen even if they could reach it.

He repeats the question, and she finally tells him that they fed on bread leftovers that fortunately weren’t rotten yet.

He then decides to stop eating, because starting today he will consider food a luxury he can do without.”
